what is komodo?
Komodo is a big giant lizard-like creature with 2-3 m in length and weigh up to 165 kg , or 100 kg when empty stomach . They only took one bite to paralyze their prey . After stalking its prey , sometimes for days , dragons will eat prey that was dying .

Komodo dragon ( Varanus komodoensis ) is a rare species that are endangered , you can only find in the Komodo National Park . Due to the uniqueness and rarity , Komodo National Park declared as a World Heritage Site and a Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986. Scientific world first discovered in 1911 by JKH Van Steyn . Since then later expand their conservation goals as well as to protect the entire biodiversity , both marine and terrestrial .
The park includes three major islands, Komodo , Rinca , and Padar , as well many other small islands which have a combined total land area of 603 km ² . The total area of Komodo National Park is presently 1,817 km ² . Extended up to 25 km ² ( Banta Island ) and 479 km ² of marine waters would result in a total area of up to 2,321 km ² . At least 2500 individuals dragons live in this region . Large dragons usually has a length of 3 m and weighs 90 kg . Dragons natural habitat is open grassland savanna , rainforest , white sandy beaches , coral reefs , and beaches where the water is crystal clear . In this area , you also can find horses , wild buffalo , deer , wild boar male , snakes , monkeys , and various species of birds .
Komodo National Park has stunning underwater biota and also "the pink beach". The divers say that the waters of Komodo is one of the best dive sites in the world . Has stunning underwater scenery . You can find 385 species of beautiful corals , mangrove forests , and seaweeds as a home for thousands of species of fish , 70 species of sponges , 10 types of dolphins , 6 kinds of whales , green turtles , and various types of sharks and stingrays
How to get there?
By daily flights from:
Bali - Labuan Bajo/Komodo Airport - Bali (each 1.5 hours)
Everyday, there are two to three flights from Bali to Labuan Bajo by Transnusa, IAT (Indonesia Air Transport), and Merpati. In addition, there is a twice a week flight from Kupang. Inter-island motorboats from Sape in West Nusa Tenggara are also available everyday (when the weather permits), and the Pelni ship from Bali and
Lombok makes a stop over here every two weeks.
Land transportation from the East (Flores mainland e.g., Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende and Maumere) is also available. If you are interested in making a long trip in Flores, you can start from Maumere to the west i.e., to Moni, Kelimutu, Ende, Bena, Bajawa, Ruteng and lastly Labuan Bajo (Komodo) or vice versa.
